Self Help UK's Impact on Elective Care

At Self Help UK, we're committed to improving the lives of individuals facing elective surgery. Our dedicated Link Workers provide personalised care, addressing the social and emotional challenges that often accompany major medical procedures.

A New Approach to Patient Care

A recent study, commissioned by NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ICB, has highlighted the significant impact of our personalised care approach. By focusing on the individual needs of each patient, we're helping to:

  • Reduce anxiety and stress: Our Link Workers provide emotional support and practical advice, helping patients feel more prepared and confident.
  • Improve health outcomes: By addressing social and economic barriers, we're enabling patients to adhere to treatment plans and achieve better results.
  • Reduce the burden on the NHS: Our early intervention and support can prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and complications.

A Real-Life Impact

Roni, a patient who received support from our Link Workers, experienced firsthand the transformative power of personalised care. Overwhelmed by anxiety after her diagnosis, Roni struggled to leave her home and continue her treatment. With the support of our Link Worker and a dedicated volunteer, she was able to overcome these challenges and successfully complete her surgery.

"For me... the Link Worker role is imperative. You put everything in place that would get me there. All the worry and anxiety about I might need oxygen, what it’ll be like when I come home, to just be me. That’s the thing, you don’t just come out of hospital and it’s a dead end, you’re still supported... The outcome is just incredible, the journey with the people and the support has been incredible. It really is just absolutely amazing. It’s an incredible service." - Roni
