New Groups
A number of new groups have started up in the last few months:
The Geno-C Group - a self help group for people with Hepatitis C. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 5.00pm - 7.00pm in the city centre. The group offers mutual support, information and complementary therapies.
Laughter Therapy Group - Scientists have found that laughter has the same health benefits as a good exercise session. It gets the heart beating, stretches the lungs, tones the stomach muscles and boosts the immune system. The Laughter group meets once a month, in the evening.
Narcolepsy Support - Narcolepsy is a neurological condition most characterised by excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). The group meets quarterly on the third Tuesday at 6.30pm in the City Centre and provides practical tips, emotional support and information to boost self confidence.
Dyslexia Support - a lively group of adults who aim to support each other through the ups and downs of having dyslexia and dyscalculia. The group aims to boost people's confidence as well as offering support, friendship and information. Meets on the first Wednesday of the month from 7.00pm - 9.00pm in the city centre.
PATCH (Parents Apart from their Children) - a new self help support group for parents separated from their children by adoption, pending adoption or similar circumstances. Meets one afternoon a month in the city centre.
From Stammering to fluent communication - a small group of people who use structured exercises to improve their fluency. Meets fortnightly on Monday evenings, in the city centre.
We have also been approached by individuals who are interested in setting up new groups around the following issues:
Testicular cancer
Grandparents who have full-time care of their grandchildren
