Directions to Self Help Nottingham from Junction 24 of the M1

After exiting the motorway, follow the signs to Nottingham along the A453. This takes you past the Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station and the new Nottingham Parkway station.

At the roundabout you are now on the outskirts of the city and enter a 40 speed zone. Take the second exit off the island continuing along the A453, passing Nottingham Trent University Clifton Campus on the left and going through several pedestrian traffic lights.

A down hill stretch leads to traffic lights at a cross roads, Fabis Drive on the left, after which the road becomes a dual carriageway. This is the approach to Clifton Bridge over the River Trent. (See photo - Approach to Clifton Bridge 1). Before the Bridge take the slip road on the left that runs alongside the approach to the bridge. (See photo - Approach to Clifton bridge 2). At the island turn left and following the sign for West Bridgford - 30 speed zone. (See photo - Clifton Bridge 3).

Continue along this road through traffic lights and round mini-islands – Roko Gym on the right.

At the T junction traffic lights, turn left. Continue forward driving past County Hall on the left after which the road joins another major road taking you over the Trent via Trent Bridge. Take the middle or right-hand lane.

Look for average speed cameras and continue to the end of this road (London Road), having passed through several traffic lights to arrive at a traffic island. On the way the Premier Hotel and the BBC offices are on the right and Jury’s Inn on the left. Before the traffic island the road opens out into four lanes, take either of the two on the left for making a left hand turn. At the island turn left into Canal Street.

Continue forward under a modern bridge for the trams going to the railway station and immediately after the bridge and at a set of traffic lights the road becomes one-way, at this point you will need to be over to the right. The road is taking you past the bus station on the right and the Law court buildings on the left.

A short distance on at traffic lights the road splits, two lanes straight on and two round to the right, proceed round to the right. Once round the corner the road immediately splits again. Proceed right into Collins Street (See photo - Collins Street) passing through further traffic lights; position yourself in the left hand lane whilst looking for car park signs for Fletcher Gate. At the end of the straight stretch with the majority of the traffic turning right, turn left into Fletcher Gate.

Proceed up the hill looking for trams travelling in both directions. (See photo - Fletcher Gate Car Park 1) After a short distance Fletcher Gate Car Park is on the right. (See photo - Fletcher Gate car park 2) Turn right into the small street before the car park to access the main entrance. (See photo - Fletcher Gate)

On foot: exit onto Fletcher Gate continuing along Fletcher Gate in the same direction as travelling in the car. At the junction of Victoria Street, Fletcher Gate and Carlton Street (See photo - The Cape), cross Victoria Street continuing in the same direction towards the Mann Ho Restaurant (now closed), past the Cape public house.

You should now be at the top of Pelham Street. Turn left and proceed down Pelham Street. (See photo - Pelham Street)

Ormiston House is located half way down the hill, opposite Ladbrokes and in between the Pit and Pendulum pub and a clothes shop. Enter the first set of glass doors and push B on the intercom to alert attention in the office on the second floor. (See photo - Ormiston House)
