Self Help Nottingham is a unique charity providing support and development opportunities for self help groups and their members in Greater Nottingham. Our services include:
- Information enquiry service about local and national self help groups and networks.
- The annual Directory of Self Help Support Groups listing established groups in Greater Nottingham as well as local, regional and national contacts and resources for individuals living with a range of conditions and their carers.
- Practical services for self help support groups - mail box and redirection, use of meeting rooms, desk top publishing, photocopying and newsletters.
- Training and development support for groups - a range of open workshops, networking opportunities and work with individual groups in response to their particular needs.
- Outreach and group development support specifically to black and ethnic minority led communities.
- Self help development across Nottinghamshire offering enhanced support to self help workers and raising the profile and effectiveness of self help activities across the county.
- Service User and Carer Involvement work at strategic and operational levels with local NHS organisations and in partnership with the University of Nottingham School of Nursing.

New Groups
A number of new groups have started in the last few months:
Coping with Anxiety - a self help support group for people experiencing anxiety. Following a very successful launch in January, this group meets fortnightly 7.00pm to 9.00pm at a community centre on the outskirts of the city.
Heart Support Group Sneinton & St Ann's - meets in the afternoon on the 1st Wednesday of each month in the Bakersfield area.
Heart Support Group Radford - meets in the morning on the last Wednesday of the month in the Radford area.
Indigo Kids Club - A group for children on the autistic spectrum and their parents. Meets monthly in Hucknall. The group offers parents only support sessions as well as opportunities for the children and their siblings to meet, play and socialise.
QMC Talking Epilepsy - the launch was held in February with the expectation of monthly meetings to be held at the Queen's Medical Centre where members can give and receive support, share their experiences and gain information.
Re-creation - a support and social gorup for anyone affected by gender identity issues. Evening meetings, 6.00pm to 8.00pm in the city centre. Aiming to have fortnightly meetings.
Grey Sheets - a self help group for people who suffer with compulsive overeating. The group follows a 12 step programme developed from Overeaters Anonymous. Meets Tuesdays 7.00pm to 8.00pm at a community centre in the city centre.
Mind Medication Group - a group for people on psychiatric drugs who want to take a self help approach to using alternatives. Currently meets in Beeston.
Osteoporosis - a new group providing information and support to people diagnosed with osteoporosis and their families. Meetings at the Post Graduate Centre, City Hospital campus.
We have also been approached by individuals who are interested in setting up new groups around the following issues:
ADAPT - for people affected by stress and struggling to deal with challenging times.
Carers and ex-carers in Bilborough
Stroke Group in Rushcliffe
Support for people who have suffered racial hatred
